Strategy

The Magic Moments Foundation is a group of volunteers who contribute time and money for the community throughout Australia. The programs that have been developed and are operational are:

  • Basket Brigade
  • Youth Leadership

These programs are at different stages of development and require a different focus. The strategies will need to be run in parallel and have some synergy such as:

  • Volunteers could be involved in both programs, in particular the involvement of the teenagers, teachers/youth leaders and parents in the Christmas Basket Brigade.

  • Youth Leadership fundraising creates opportunities to increase the number of new members for the Foundation. Historically the membership fees have supported the administration costs of the Foundation with the balance going towards the Basket Brigade.

  • Basket Brigade recipients may qualify for the Youth Program.
Proposed Strategies

Basket Brigade

The Basket Brigade has been operational for many years and has gone through stages of growth, which appear to be a result of the storytelling during the Anthony Robbins seminars e.g. Unleash the Power Within or UPW. Therefore, UPW influences the number of Basket Brigade Coordinators and Volunteers and impacts the number of brigades and baskets that are delivered each year.

In the desire to increase the number of homeless and needy that the Basket Brigade can touch, it is important to put in place the processes that support the coordinators whilst keeping the administration costs minimum.

The following strategies are suggested:

  1. Establish the role of National Basket Brigade Coordinator as a Board position
  2. Agree on the Role and Responsibility for the coordinator
  3. Document a list of known issues and create a plan of resolve
  4. Create a forum for coordinators to suggest improvements and give feedback
  5. Review the Basket Brigade Coordinators kit focusing on easy operation for new coordinators
  6. Create a fundraising guide for coordinators
  7. Create an introduction process for volunteers
  8. Create a check list for the Christmas Basket Brigade

Youth Program – Discovery Camp

The Youth Program commenced in February 2001 with the first Discovery Camp held in Lake Tahoe, July 2001 and has been incorporated into the Magic Moments Foundation since December 2001. The outcome for the program is to attend Discovery Camp and launch Discovery Mentoring in Australia affecting teenagers, teachers, youth leaders and parents.

Ultimately, Discovery Camp would be hosted in Australia however the plan is to support the USA Discovery Camp until the Australian seminar is operational, proposed 2008. Therefore, the following strategies are suggested:

  1. Determine the type of sponsorship and the rules for sponsorship that the Magic Moments Foundation will offer for teenagers, teachers, youth leaders, parents and crew/leadership to attend Discovery Camp in San Diego.

  2. Agree on roles and responsibilities, which will support the development of the Youth Leadership program and focus on the processes to sustain the program through growth e.g. Registration and Communication. The support and growth of the state committees is also a key function.

  3. Plan the training and implementation of the Discovery Mentoring program prior to Discovery Camp.
  4. Establishment of an Australian Discovery presence at all Australian events.
  5. Expanding the possibilities of programs in Prisons and with the Elderly.
Summary

In summary, each of the programs rely on the operation and administration of the Magic Moments Foundation, therefore an Administration committee will need to be formed along with the sub committees to be headed up by the board members.

The primary objectives for the administration committee could be:

  • Operation of the Contacts Database as a communication tool for letters and email.
  • Establishment of the Magic Moments Foundation web site incorporating Basket Brigade and Youth Leadership.
  • Review of the Accounting and Auditing procedures.
  • Maximising the potential of the bank accounts and minimizing costs.
  • Review of Insurance policies.
