NSW – Sydney Basket Brigade

The Sydney Basket Brigade is part of The Magic Moments Foundation, a national non-profit organisation formed to create a community of caring volunteers who are committed to consistently reaching and assisting people who are often forgotten by society, and who might need to be reminded that someone cares about them. The Sydney Basket Brigade work with grassroot organisations to anonymously deliver baskets filled with food, clothing, toys and hope to those who need it most. It’s about making sure that Christmas is full of love for everyone.

How can you help us this year?

It’s the time and energy that all of our incredible supporters dedicate which makes everything that we do possible. Our goal for 2017 is to deliver 2000 baskets of food, toys and gifts. There are lots of ways you can help us.

  • Basket Buddies – we’ve launched a new campaign this year!
    Join us in adding one or two extra items to your grocery shop each week to put away enough goodies to fill a basket for a whole family in need. This is a great activity for everyone to get involved with! Click here to find out everything you need to know about becoming a Basket Buddy. To join our team of Basket Buddies, sign up here and we’ll keep you updated on the latest information. It couldn’t be easier!
  • Donation stations – sign up to host a donation drive!
    Host a food and gift drive at your company, in your building, on your street, or at your local community centre, club or school. It’s an incredible way to help and it’s the real backbone of Sydney Basket Brigade. In October, we’ll send you a pack with everything you need to run a top notch campaign.   • Corporate week – are you looking for new team building activity for your team at work?
    There’s lots to do to prepare for the big day so we are always looking for teams to come to the warehouse the week before packing day to help us sort the donations, decorate our boxes, wrap gifts and write Christmas cards. It could be a great activity for your team so click here to register your interest and we’ll get in touch with more information.
  • Calling all kindergartens and schools…
    We’ve launched an exciting new set of activities aimed to inspire young people to care for others and encourage them to make a positive difference to the lives of other members of their community.   • Make a cash donation – forego a fancy coffee this week and donate $5.
    Click here to donate. Remember to select Sydney Basket Brigade from the drop down list! Cash donations above $2 are tax deductible. We appreciate every little bit of help.
  • Donate goods
    If you or your company are able to donate bulk quantities of items for the baskets, we’d love to hear from you. Simply send us a message ([email protected]) and let us know what you’re able to donate. Tax receipts for goods are available.

How It Works

This program is built on the simple notion
that one small act of generosity on the
part of one caring person can transform
the lives of hundreds.


The volunteers collect generous
donations in the form of money,
food, clothes, toys, books, etc.

Throughout the year volunteers actively
promote the program and find out who in
our community is in most need of support.

A: The Basket Brigades work with local grass roots community groups and organisations that work with the families in need. By connecting with these groups we are able to help them provide much needed services that they would otherwise struggle to provide. We are also able to identify the people most worthy of the donations.
A: We deliver baskets to wherever they are needed.
A: We are a not for profit organisation that is run totally by volunteers who care about making a difference in the lives of others. The only administrative fees we have are some basic postage costs and our insurances. So approximately 98-99% of the funds raised are used on the projects, programs and people in the community. Where possible all our brochures and marketing materials are donated by generous businesses who are keen supporters of the Basket Brigade. If you have a business and would like to support us give us a call or drop us an email – we would love to hear from you.
A: The Basket Brigades listed on this website are a program of the Magic Moments Foundation of Australia which is a registered non-profit charity. Any donation over $2 will receive a tax deductible receipt which you can then use to claim as a tax deduction.
A: The baskets consist of staple foods, festive foods and items as well as toys for the children of the families. Pasta, rice, tinned and fresh foods accompany Christmas cakes, tinned ham, custard and jelly. The idea is to provide yummy things to make a festive Christmas Day and staple items for the days before and after. We also often provide hampers with slight variations for families who may have dietary or religious restrictions around particular foods if we are made aware of this.
A: The baskets are given anonymously – in the true spirit of Christmas these baskets are a gift to show that there are people who love and care for them even if they never find out who these people are. A small note is included in the parcel that lets them know that this is a gift from someone that cares and encourages them to do the same when the day comes that they are able to.
