    NSW – Sydney Basket Brigade

    Since 1995, Sydney Basket Brigade has worked with grassroot organisations to anonymously deliver food, clothing, toys and hope to those who need it most. We are a non-profit organisation run totally by volunteers, and a non-religious, non-political organisation, bringing together like-minded people who want to make a difference to others’ lives.

    The Sydney Basket Brigade is all about giving back at Christmas. It’s about volunteers helping those who have fallen on hard times who might need to be reminded that someone cares. It is about making sure that Christmas is full of love for everyone.

    The Committee deliberately seeks out recipients who might otherwise fall through the cracks and not seek charity – children, the elderly, the hungry, refugees, women and the homeless.

    How can you help us this year?

    It’s the time and energy that all of our incredible supporters dedicate which makes everything that we do possible. Our goal for 2018 is to deliver 3000 baskets filled with goodies. There are lots of ways you can help us.

            • Basket Buddies 2018 – build a hamper for a family in need
              Start by finding a box, then collect all of the items in the tree in our Basket Buddies kit. Sign up here and then download your Basket Buddies Kit 2018 for everything you need to get started.
            • Get your kindergarten or school involved
              We’ve created an exciting set of activities to help your class join in. Click here to find out more from our new schools pack and register here.
            • Get your workplace involved
              We’d love your company to partner with us – from team volunteering to hosting a donation station or organising a fundraiser there’s lots of ways your company can help. Click here to download our workplace giving pack and register here.
            • Donate goods
              If you or your company are able to donate bulk items for the baskets, we’d love to hear from you. Simply reply to this message and let us know what you’d like to donate. Tax receipts for goods are available.
            • Make a cash donation – forego a fancy coffee this week and donate $5. 
              If everyone who received this message today donated $5, we would raise $7,170. That’s enough for almost 175 baskets! So if you can, please click here to donate. Remember to select Sydney Basket Brigade from the drop down list.

    How It Works

    This program is built on the simple notion
    that one small act of generosity on the
    part of one caring person can transform
    the lives of hundreds.


    The volunteers collect generous
    donations in the form of money,
    food, clothes, toys, books, etc.

    Throughout the year volunteers actively
    promote the program and find out who in
    our community is in most need of support.

    A: The Basket Brigades work with local grass roots community groups and organisations that work with the families in need. By connecting with these groups we are able to help them provide much needed services that they would otherwise struggle to provide. We are also able to identify the people most worthy of the donations.
    A: We deliver baskets to wherever they are needed.
    A: We are a not for profit organisation that is run totally by volunteers who care about making a difference in the lives of others. The only administrative fees we have are some basic postage costs and our insurances. So approximately 98-99% of the funds raised are used on the projects, programs and people in the community. Where possible all our brochures and marketing materials are donated by generous businesses who are keen supporters of the Basket Brigade. If you have a business and would like to support us give us a call or drop us an email – we would love to hear from you.
    A: The Basket Brigades listed on this website are a program of the Magic Moments Foundation of Australia which is a registered non-profit charity. Any donation over $2 will receive a tax deductible receipt which you can then use to claim as a tax deduction.
    A: The baskets consist of staple foods, festive foods and items as well as toys for the children of the families. Pasta, rice, tinned and fresh foods accompany Christmas cakes, tinned ham, custard and jelly. The idea is to provide yummy things to make a festive Christmas Day and staple items for the days before and after. We also often provide hampers with slight variations for families who may have dietary or religious restrictions around particular foods if we are made aware of this.
    A: The baskets are given anonymously – in the true spirit of Christmas these baskets are a gift to show that there are people who love and care for them even if they never find out who these people are. A small note is included in the parcel that lets them know that this is a gift from someone that cares and encourages them to do the same when the day comes that they are able to.
