We believe that only by personal transformation, acceptance of our fellow man and the ability to communicate with a genuine desire for peace and abundance can we truly start to make positive change. A dawning of awareness – beginning with the youth of our communities.
We are committed volunteers with a goal: “To create the opportunity for young people to set their own standards for their futures. With the result enabling them to share and experience an extraordinary quality of life not only for themselves, but also for all those who they have the privilege to touch”.
The Basket Brigade began decades ago with one man’s decision to help families in need. The man, Anthony Robbins, remembers how as a child, he was caught by surprise when a stranger gave his family bags of food on Thanksgiving Day in the United States. From then on, he resolved to do what he could to make others feel that strangers do care. Tony’s efforts eventually brought about an international campaign to provide food and gifts for people who need a hand.
The Basket Brigades in Australia operate under the Magic Moments Foundation. Our local committees of volunteers work throughout the year to create their Christmas Basket Brigades. They collect donations including non-perishable food and toys so to be able to provide baskets to families in need. Our Brigades are spread across the country helping those in their communities at a grass roots level.
In 2007 the Grandies Program was given a new lease of life when some of our Basket Brigade volunteers recognised that there was a group within our communities who had been somewhat forgotten by society and the food baskets they were delivering weren’t actually what these people needed.
Elderly residents living in care facilities but without any support from family or friends really had a need. Not only was their need for daily items you and I take for granted but also to know that there are people that care for them.
